Les is the nephew of Gertie Huddleston, the famous artist from Ngukurr Aboriginal community. Les grew up in Yirrkala mission, where he attended his early schooling. He went to the Sapporo Snow Festival, Japan, where he did Ice Sculpture. He was commissioned by the CSIRO to paint the world space science mural – environment from the sky, dynasty design international, and he was also commissioned to design a selection of watch faces for an exclusive designer range.
